MAJ Jim Moore, Commander

MAJ Jim Moore, a member of the GSDF for twenty years, joined from a civilian background on 19 MAR 1988.

MAJ Moore holds degrees in Music and Biblical Studies, and is also a graduate of Coastal Georgia Police academy (Top of his class) with over twenty years in both government and civilian law enforcement. Active in amateur astronomy, he is Past President of the Atlanta Astronomy Club. His current civilian job is pastor of Gwinnett Baptist Tabernacle, where he has ministered for ten years. A fantasy writer working on his seventh book, his interests include aviation, archeology, genealogy, history, and ancient and medieval arms, armor, and warfare. He has been married thirty years to the former Julia Lee Baxley and has six children and five (so far) grandchildren.

His past assignments in the SDF include unit and staff positions in 3BN, as well as Co of Family Assistance Detachment, acting Chaplain, S2, Assist S3 plans and ops, and S3 for 1BDE.

1LT Debbie Bright, RN, XO

1LT Deborah Bright is the former Commander of 1st Brigade Medical Detachment (MEDDET). Prior to joining MEDDET, 1LT Bright was an embedded medic in 3rd Battalion/1st Brigade.

1LT Bright is a registered nurse, a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Nursing School in Utica, NY. She has many years of experience as a CNOR surgical nurse. Currently, she works in the Medical Office of the American Red Cross Biomedical Services, Southern Region dealing with blood donor and blood transfusion recipient health issues. 1LT Bright has been a member of the GSDF since July 2004.

SGT Wade Price

Sgt. Price is non-prior military, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta with a major in Organizational Management and a minor in Psychology. He was sworn into the GaSDF on 14 January 2006 on Hogback Mountain. Upon his enlistment he was assigned to the Boar's Head Detachment, now the 4/1. While in 4/1, Sgt. Price served as squad leader after some time with the unit. He has been privileged to instruct in 1st BDE schools to inlcude Initial Entry Training (IET) and SLC. Sgt. Price graduated the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer's Course (BNCOC) in May 2008. His roles have been: assistant platoon sergeant, class room instructor, and observer/controller for a field training exercise (FTX). Sgt. Price was one of a few 4/1 instructors at the 2007 Annual Training (AT) at Fort Stewart, GA. He has received commendations for support missions with the North Georgia College ROTC cadets, Acworth Beach 2007, 1st brigade funeral detail, and was one of those awarded the Georgia Commendation Medal for participation in operation “Boots on the Ground”. Sgt. Price was named the 4/1's “Soldier of the Quarter” for 3rd quarter 2007. SGT Price is experienced in marriage, has 3 children and 3 grandchildren with another grandchild on the way.

Officer Candidate Jennifer Long

Officer Candidate Jennifer Long joined the GSDF in April of 2006, and is a medic with 1st Brigade MEDDET. In October of 2007 she completed the 4th Battalion's Wilderness Search & Rescue School. Long is a graduate of Oxford College of Emory University and the Medical College of Georgia. She has been a LPTA for 15 years, and is currently a therapist for special needs students in the Rockdale County Public School System.

Officer Candidate Mike O'Rear

Officer Candidate Mike O'Rear is prior military and served with the Headquarters Company 1st Missile Battalion, 69 Artillery in Germany from 1959 to 1962.

O'Rear joined the Georgia State Defense Force on January 15, 2006 and was selected for OCS in 2007 and will attend OCS from January thru June, 2008.

O'Rear graduated from Chattanooga State Technical Community College in 1969 with an Associate of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, University of Memphis in 1972 with a BS in Electronics Engineering Technology, University of Memphis in 1975 with a MS degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, and the Georgia State University in 1995 with a PhD in Human Resource Development.

PFC Litts

PFC Litts was born in Abington PA, and grew up in the Philadelphia area. He attended a few high schools before graduating from Wissachickon High School in Lower Gwynedd, PA.

PFC Litts has been involved in community service since an early age. In 1984 he joined the Independent Fire Company No. 2 in Jenkintown ,PA as a junior member. He completed firefighter training at the Montgomery County Fire Academy, and went on to become a Vehicle Rescue Technician. PFC Litts later joined the Community Ambulance Association of Ambler and went to EMT school, and in 1993 graduated from the Paramedic Certificate Program at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA. He worked as a medic in the surrounding counties of Philadelphia, and as an ER Tech at Hahnemann University on their Trauma Team. After moving to Sarasota, FL in 1988 he began work as an OR tech at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

In 2003 PFC Litts received an offer to run a computer gaming center in Marietta GA, and moved to GA in Jan 2004. He joined the Cobb County Community Emergency Response Team in October of 2005, and has been active in teaching classes for their Continuing Education Program. He moved to Cherokee County in 2007, and is currently a part of their Community Emergency Response Team program. He joined the GaSDF in August 2007, and completed IET in September.

CPL Howard Tyler (former active MEDDET, now Ready Reserve)

CPL Howard Tyler is married with one son. He is a career law enforcement officer in and with the State of Georgia serving throughout Georgia since 1982. He holds an Associate of Science in Natural Sciences – Biology from Middle Georgia College and Associate of Science in Social Sciences – Criminal Justice from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He has been continuously certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) since 1985. CPL Tyler was previously employed as an EMT with Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus, Georgia; Macon County EMS in Montezuma, Georgia: Coffee Regional Hospital in Douglas, Georgia and Merit Regional Med in Douglas, Georgia while stationed in those areas of operation. He also served as volunteer firefighter while in the Douglas, Coffee County area.

CPL Howard Tyler is a certified CPR and First Aid Instructor, a Peace Officer Standard and Training (POST) certified Field Training Officer and a POST certified General Instructor. CPL Tyler is a member of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, a member of Southern States Police Benevolent Association, a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, a member of the Georgia Association of Chief’s of Police, a voting member of the National Liquor Law Enforcement Association, an agency member of the National Conference of State Liquor Administrators and currently serves as a Cub Scout Den Leader.
